Big thanks to Andre! He came out early in the afternoon to build the stage, I also hear that later on he took down the stage all by himself. Once again, thank you and kanpai!
Kaname-san from VIOLET FIELDS started the night off and as soon as he played the first song... marching down the street like a pack of Nazis came the Futenma Fuzz (AKA the police). Luckily they just wanted to make sure that the outdoor stage would be finished right after midnight to comply with noise ordinance. Kaname-san played his brand of folk songs that you usually hear seeping out of Tropicana Bar & Ramen Shop. His girlfriend helped out on a couple of songs and several people stopped to give a listen as they made there way to Futenma Temple.
Yuki started off by herself doing an a cappella song! quite brave, I have to say. Then her and Shinobu played an acoustic set minus the usual shamisen for some reason.
SASPIRILLA came out loud yet melodic with twin guitar assault. Yes, Weldon's old MUNCHKINS IN THE CAN alumni Louie picked up the electric guitar to blast out some noisy post punk rock-n-roll! Once again Kokusho-kun was playing guitar and singing back up vocals and the intertwining guitars sounded fantastic. "Gallivant" is really coming together and it caught the attention of several people. They ended with a cover of Austin, Texas punk legends THE DICKS classic number "The Dicks Hate The Police" which MUDHONEY and STOOPIDLY YOURS are also known to cover.
SELFISH GENE put on another brilliant performance that had elements of comedy (courtesy of Mr. Tooru "Art Nature" Yamashiro), psychedelia, New York art punk, distortion, and Beer! They blazed through a nice set even challenging and defeating the pouring down rain. They tried to smash together a bunch of songs into one "long" song to get past the midnight deadline but the Fuzz was not having that.
The party moved to inside of Boon Bar and a jam session took place. The so called jam session was led by Mr. Tooru Yamashiro, who took it upon himself to try and play every instrument in sight. Unfortunately for Mr. Yamashiro all of this has been captured on video hahahaha.
Takafumi Toyama from SHAOLONG TO THE SKY showed up around 3AM and played a nice friendly acoustic set. Mr. Yamashiro (in full gear) joined in first on standup bass then switched to his instrument of choice - the drums. Takafumi started off with a slick cover of IRUKA's "Nagori Yuki", in fact Yutaka has it captured on video - fuck yeah! The night ended or the morning started at Boon Bar with some karaoke, the gunjins were getting restless and wanted to do some singing of there own. Takafumi (SHAOLONG TO THE SKY), Yutaka (SELFISH GENE), and Louie (ONE HUNDRED BLUE) sang a BUCK-TICK song together which was quite nostalgic since quite some years ago those three were members of the BUCK TICK cover band known as DARKNESS. It's 2007 which means that Chicken Katsu Records enters into it's 14th year as a true independent record label - thank you very much for all the support over the years and 今年もよろしくお願いします。
