I was really excited about this event because it was being held at Kazu's (UCHU NEKO) new bar. If you don't know, Kazu was the original owner of Moby Dick (Nakanomachi area) and then later on he opened Tangerine (near Mihama) but this new place called Oto Bora (located near Chuo Park Avenue, in the basement of Tsubohachi Izakaya) is what he's always really wanted to do. It was an honor to have one of the first big events at Oto Bora be our 14th Annual Party.

THE MAN'S is made up of friends of RED BACKET and even feature Yasu (from RED BACKET) on bass. They said something about THE LIBERTINES so I'm guessing that's who they were covering. I'm not to familiar with that band but what I did feel was an early THE CLASH kinda mixed with a bit of mod. I like it!

HI-CHEESE were on fire... this is probably the best performance I've seen from these guys. Sounds like they just got back from playing in Miyako Island, we need to set up something down there one of these days. Anyways a nice set of THE BLUE HEARTS inspired punk / rock-n-roll, I don't know why but they also make me think of THE REPLACEMENTS. They came out to the after party at Paddy Mac's so we got to knock a few more pints down with the newest recruits to the Chicken Katsu Records roster.

SELFISH GENE - well this was the first gig with Narito on bass and well I knew that Kazuro was gonna play some songs with them but I had no idea that he had officially joined the band. I guess with Narito back and Kazuro in the band now, Yutaka went into a sort of panic mode... he was restless and nervous but not from drinking too much. They only played like three songs! What the fuck! You could tell that Tooru and Narito wanted to keep playing and the crowd was hungry for more but I guess Yutaka was done for the night. Sometimes that whole perfectionist way of thinking that he gets can really put a damper on things... Tooru was telling me that Yutaka was frustrated that it wasn't sounding the exact way he wanted it to sound. That's a live show, that kind of shit happens, you work around it... adlib, improvise, show your ass, whip out your cock, do something that fills the void... when your in the studio or before you enter the studio to record is when you put on the thinking cap and worry about getting the song exactly how you want it... but then again, I'm sure a lot of musicians would agree that don't always turn out the way you planned either hahaha... I don't know, I thought "Rock-n-Roll Jet Coaster" showed potential and it's always nice to hear the WATER COLOR classic "Into The Green"... in fact even Lenny (8-BALL / LEQUIO) came by to hear that song. Thanks again Lenny!

MUNCHKINS IN THE CAN ended the night with a tight set that reminded me of the 'Weldon, Louie, Shawn' lineup back in Minneapolis around 2001. They even kicked it off with the "Ramen Noodles" into "Bottled Water" thing that they do... it was supposed to be that way on the "Pepper, Milky, & Chimi" CDEP but it didn't turn out right... like I just said not everything always goes as planned in the studio hahahaha. More nostalgia (definitely in a good way) arose when Slay took it upon himself to bring back his legendary dick dancing while the band played "The Quest" and "The Road Less Traveled". Lot of good feedback for "17 Years" which Louie takes the lead vocal on. You know it seems as if Shinobu has been in the band right from the start, he fits perfectly... finally the future looks bright for THE MUNCHKINS. Kanpai!

Thanks to everyone that came out and big thanks to Slay "the dick dancer", Kazu (owner of Oto Bora), Katsu from Wakamusha Radio, Takeshi from FYI Radio, Irish Car Bomb Martin and the Paddy Mac's crew, Dai-chan, Osaka-san (Okonomi Goya), and last but not least the bands.
